Eden Project - The Edge

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

The Eden Project has done a huge amount for Cornwall, when Tim Smit and his team 1st opened it it drew huge numbers of people down here and now it is repositioning itself as a centre for learning, teaching and climate change management.

Part of this new work is being planned in The Edge, this is described as “a visionary new building to meet the challenge of climate change”  The plans and ideas for this are very grand - Tim doesn’t do half measures - and therefore expensive.  This development of the project will cost around £50M and to try and get this the Eden team have entered the Big Lottery Fund’s “The People’s £50M Contest” which will be decided by public vote later this month.

Some people have been saying that Eden has had enough public / grant money and should now stand on its own feet but I feel that a scheme as grand as this deserves support as it will help to educate on the issues of climate change and (here’s the selfish bit) will hopefully give Eden a new emphasis and bring more people down to vist.  This will therefore put a lot more money back into the local economy in a long term sustainable way.

If you want to find out more about this visit www.edenproject.com , not surprisingly all the details for registering and voting are readily to hand.  You will need to register to be able to vote but this is very easy.  If you want to vote by phone you can too between 9.00am on the 7th Dec and 12.00 noon on the 10th.  The phone number hasn’t been released yet.

Have a look and please vote for Eden!
